Sanctuary city insanity: San Francisco jury lets illegal alien get away with murder

Convicted felon who had been deported five times found not guilty in San Francisco pier murder of Kate Steinle

A San Francisco jury found Jose Garcia Zarate not guilty Thursday in the 2015 murder of 32-year-old Kate Steinle, a crime he had confessed to in a jailhouse interview.

President Trump, a fighter for tougher immigration laws, condemned the verdict as “disgraceful.”

“No wonder the people of our country are so angry with illegal immigration,” he tweeted.

The only count Zarate was found guilty of was felony possession of a weapon, for which he will serve no jail time because of time already served.

Steinle was shot and killed on a pier in San Francisco in 2015 while walking with her father. With her last breath she begged her father for help before dying in his arms.

Zarate, 45, faces a maximum sentence of three years on the weapons charge, but because of the time he has already served in jail, he is expected to be released soon.

“The Kate Steinle killer came back and back over the weakly protected Obama border, always committing crimes and being violent, and yet this info was not used in court,” Trump tweeted again on Friday.

“His exoneration is a complete travesty of justice. BUILD THE WALL!” he continued.

“The jury was not told the killer of Kate was a seven time felon. The Schumer/Pelosi Democrats are so weak on crime that they will pay a big price in the 2018 and 2020 elections.”

Under a sanctuary city law, the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department had released Zarate from jail despite a federal immigration request to detain him for deportation.

“This tragedy could have been prevented if San Francisco had turned the alien over to ICE instead of releasing him back onto the streets.” — ICEman Tom Homan

These sanctuary cities, in California and many other states, that have become safe havens for murderers were put in place by liberals who, as one paper put it, “claim to be pro-women even though American women are being murdered by the court-protected illegal aliens without any outcry from feminists.”

Zarate, previously known as Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez, confessed to shooting Steinle in a jailhouse interview with a local ABC News affiliate. He also told the outlet that he had chosen to go to San Francisco because he knew it was a sanctuary city.

U.S. Immigration enforcement head Tom Homan said Zacate will be deported — again — and blasted San Francisco law enforcement and city officials for refusing to cooperate with his department previously, which would have saved Steinle’s life.

“San Francisco’s policy of providing a safe haven to criminal illegal aliens is a blatant threat to public safety and undermines the rule of law,” Homan said. “This tragedy could have been prevented if San Francisco had simply turned the alien over to ICE, as we requested, instead of releasing him back onto the streets. It is unconscionable that politicians across this country continue to endanger the lives of Americans with sanctuary policies.”

ICEman Homan lists San Francisco as one of the worst sanctuary cities in America, along with New York, Chicago and Philadelphia.

But they are the mere tip of the iceberg. Here’s the rest of them:
