    Austria on the right track

Freedom Party leader Heinz-Christian Strache and his wife Philippa in the spotlight.

Anti-immigration Freedom Party looks strong going into Sunday’s elections

Austria’s far-right party, proving to be a powerful presence in the federal elections, hopes to unify the country by challenging the centrist establishment and form a ruling coalition.

The new strength of the anti-immigration, anti-Islam, anti-EU party mirrors that of the Alternative for Germany party that became the third-largest force in the Bundestag after last month’s national elections.

220px-JoergHaider_Sep07The Freedom Party, one of Europe’s most established nationalist groups, has weathered a checkered past to become a formidable foe to take on the Social Democrats and conservative People’s Party that have dominated post-war politics in Austria.

The party’s renewed popularity began with Jörg Haider, the charismatic and flamboyant son of a former Nazi official, who took the organization to new heights during the 1990s. After Haider’s death in a car accident in 2008, the party was in disarray and barely a presence on the political scene.

Then along came Strache, a 48-year-old dental technician, who, as Marine Le Pen did with France’s National Front party, toned down the extreme-right rhetoric and distanced he party from its neo-Nazi, anti-Semitic past.

The new approach worked and and now Strache’s party is forecast to come second or third and form a coalition with 31-year-old Sebastian Kurz’s conservative center-right People’s Party, thus making Strache the deputy chancellor.

Women’s ‘champion’ Clinton finally issues statement on Weinstein that reeks of insincerity

A three-sentence tweet by her former media flunky was all the integrity and courage she could muster

Presidential loser Hillary Clinton took five days to get up the nerve to comment on the sexual harassment storm swirling around her sleazy fundraiser and disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.

“I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein,” the woman, Unknown-5whose husband has committed his own share of shocking and appalling behavior, stated secondhand. “The behavior described by the women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior.”

This from a woman who attempted to cover up her husband’s sexual criminality by threatening his victims if they didn’t keep their mouths shut. The hypocrisy would be laughable if it wasn’t so appalling.

And she only put out the statement to stave off criticism about her silence that was escalating from left and right-wing media outlets, politicians and celebrities.

Clinton and Weinstein have been close pals since he donated to Bill Clinton’s legal

    Two of a kind

defense fund in the 1990s. Clinton rented a home next to Weinstein in the Hamptons in 2015, and Weinstein bundled big bucks for her disastrous presidential campaign. She also headlined big-dollar fundraisers at Weinstein’s home in New York City.

Weinstein was fired from his own company after reports of sexual harassment spanning decades and resulting in at least eight settlements with young women.

    Trump going to the DMZ

One of the most dangerous places on earth

President Trump will head for the Demilitarized Zone on the Korean border early next month when he visits South Korea.

Despite its name, the narrow strip of land separating the two Koreas is the most heavily armed region in the world, and literally a stone’s throw from Kim Jong-Unknownun’s nuke-armed regime.

Land mines, barbed wire and tank stoppers line the entire border and stretch back halfway to Seoul in the South and Pyongyang in the North.

The White House has sent a team of officials to the border village of Panmunjom about 55 km north of Seoul to check potential sites for the president’s “special activity” when he is there.

North and South Korean soldiers glare at each other across the border. They have not been allowed to cross the demarcation line into each other’s side since the ‘Axe Murder Incident’ in 1976 when two American soldiers, Arthur Bonifas and Mark Barrett, who were trimming a tree along the DMZ were hacked to death by axe-wielding North Korean soldiers.
