Youngest MP ever elected was a rising star of the French Right
Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, niece of Marine Le Pen and one of the most influential MPs in France, announced Tuesday she is quitting politics for personal reasons.
The 27-year-old will not run for office in the French legislative elections in June, saying she wants to spend more time with her young child and escape the “whirlwind” of politics. She was only 22 when she was elected to the National Assembly in 2012.
Even though she publicly backed her aunt in the French presidential election, Marion had a different vision for the Front National party than Marine and FN vice-president Florian Philippot. She opposes gay marriage and abortion to a greater degree than either of them and wants a more conservative, Catholic and traditionalist party.
Meanwhile, her aunt is in the process of rebranding and renaming the Front National, as she tries to garner as many seats in legislative elections.
