Dieu merci pour les femmes françaises!

No Hollywood snowflakes here!

Catherine Deneuve joins famous French women in slamming the new puritanism.

Men should be “free to hit on” women, says the great French actress.

The ‘Belle de Jour’ star added her name to those of 100 French women writers, performers and academics who wrote an open letter deploring out-of-control sexual harassment claims spreading like wildfire after being sparked by allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

IMG_0992The open letter, published in Le Monde, condemns the “witch-hunt” and says it threatens sexual freedom.

“Rape is a crime, but trying to seduce someone, even persistently or cack-handedly, is not,” the letter states, “nor is men being gentlemanly a macho attack.”

The letter continues: “Men have been punished summarily, forced out of their jobs when all they did was touch someone’s knee or try to steal a kiss.”

Feminist social media campaigns like #MeToo and its French equivalent #Balancetonporc (Call out your pig) were blamed for the “puritanical wave of purification.”

Oscar-nominated Deneuve, 74, is best known internationally for playing a bored housewife who spends her afternoons as a prostitute in Luis Bunuel classic 1967 film, ‘Belle de Jour.’

“I don’t think it is the right method to change things, it is excessive,” Deneuve has said, referring to the #MeToo hashtag. “After ‘Calling our your pig’ what are we going to have, ‘Call out your whore?'”
