A couple of mavericks

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte are in the U.S.A. and will have a private dinner with President and Melania Trump on Monday evening and be hosted at a ritzy state dinner on Tuesday night.

Macron, 40, and Trump, 71, have become close pals.

“We have this very special relationship because the both of us are probably the mavericks of the system,” Macron said in a TV interview on Sunday.

“President Trump’s election was unexpected in your country, and probably my election was unexpected in my country. We are not part of the classical political system.

“We are very much aligned on some of the very critical issues of the world, especially countering terrorism and fighting ISIS.

”We have a very strong, personal relationship based on the different meetings we had, especially such as your president gave to my country for Bastille Day in 2017.”

When asked if the many scandals swirling around Trump will affect his standing on the world stage, Macron said:
“To me, there is no impact.”
