Off to the wilds of Maryland for the weekend

President Trump, with First Lady Melania and son Barron, flew to Camp David, the government-owned retreat in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains, for the first time since being elected.

Trump was garbed in his traditional dark suit, but no tie, with Melania wearing a $1,795 summer-like pinstripe shirt dress by Gabriela Hearst, and a pair of Christian Louboutin ballet flats. Barron sported Arsenal Football Club shorts and matching red knee-high socks. Melania’s parents, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, tagged along for the overnight trip.

Presidents have been going to the retreat 70 miles from the White House for more than 70 years. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was the first to use the retreat in 1942, called it Shangri-La, until Dwight Eisenhower named it after his grandson, and the name stuck.

The First Family is scheduled to return to the White House on Sunday.
