“We renew our resolve, stronger than ever, to protect the United States and its allies from a vile enemy that has waged war on innocent life,” Trump said in his first public comments on the attacks in central London that left seven dead and 48 injured. “It’s gone on too long.”

The truck ramming on London Bridge and the stabbings at the Borough Market followed the bomb attack at a pop concert in Manchester less than two weeks earlier that killed 22 mostly young people, including an eight-year-old girl, and injured 59.

Trump attended the Ford’s Theater gala with First Lady Melania and his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

“As president, I will do what is necessary to prevent this threat from spreading to our shores and work every single day to protect the safety and security of our country, our communities and our people.”

Earlier in the day Trump posted several tweets slamming London’s Muslim Mayor Sadiq Khan for his complacency and ineffectiveness in combatting terrorism and called again for the U.S. courts to reinstate his travel ban against seven mostly-Muslim countries.
